Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has admitted that he has not ruled out the possibility of Roberto Baggoio representing Italy at EURO 2004.
Baggio, 37, is set for a farewell international against Spain on Wednesday, but Trapattoni admits that Baggio could still earn a place in his squad for the finals.
“In football you can never say never,” said Trapattoni.
“Many things can happen between now and June, but I won’t be pressured by the media otherwise there would be 30 players in the squad and 30 million different formations.
“I don’t believe that he is ready to hang up his boots, and it is true there have been a lot of major injuries in the team recently. I don’t want to say anything, but only God knows what will happen tomorrow.”
Baggio was delighted to hear that he has a chance, albeit a remote chance of travelling to Portugal.
“Just the fact Trapattoni has said ‘never say never’ is already more than I could have ever have hoped for,” admitted the veteran forward.
“I am happy with this match, but if something else comes along then I’ll obviously be ecstatic.”
