Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is to miss the rest of the World Cup after injuring his thigh against Switzerland.

But the 26-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player will remain at the Ukraine camp as they prepare for Friday’s quarter-final against Italy in Hamburg.

“Andriy is distraught that the World Cup is over for him,” said Ukraine spokesman Igor Mirochnichenko.

Voronin has played in all four of Ukraine’s matches at the tournament.

Ukraine qualified for the last eight after beating Switzerland on penalties, but Voronin was substituted 10 minutes before the end of extra time.
