Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal can resist any advances from REal Madrid for club captain Patrick Vieira.
“I have said it 100 times, there is nothing to talk about,” Wenger told the Arsenal website.
“He will not go to Real Madrid. If that was true it would have happened a long time ago.
“If you have to come out and deny everything that is written you have a big job to do. We have to concentrate on what we do. That is to prepare, practise and play.
“The rumours are rumours. In England we are the world champions of rumours. If they organise a world championship of rumours we have a great chance of winning.”
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has admitted that the French midfielder is his number one transfer target this summer.
Vieira meanwhile, has maintained a dignified silence when quizzed about the speculation.
“I am sorry,” Vieira replied to a reporter from Marca on Sunday. “I cannot speak. This is not the right moment. I cannot talk about Real Madrid. Leave me. Don’t do this.”
