West Ham have pulled off a remarkable coup by signing Argentina duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Brazilian club Corinthians.

The club said: “West Ham United are delighted to announce the double signing of Argentinian World Cup stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Brazilian club Corinthians.

The World Cup duo had been reportedly due to move to Upton Park on a year-long loan, but the club confimed that they have both signed permanent deals for an undisclosed fee.

“The pair have been signed for an undisclosed fee and put pen-to-paper on permanent contracts with the club this afternoon. All other aspects of the transfers will remain confidential and undisclosed.

“The transfers represent a massive coup for the Hammers, who have beaten off some of Europe’s biggest clubs to secure the services of the duo.”

Tevez, 22, claimed earlier today on his website that he and Mascherano, 22, had signed contracts with West Ham.

“Carlitos Tevez along with his former Corinthians team-mate, Javier Mascherano, has signed a contract to play with West Ham United of England,” read the statement

The Premiership outfit are thought to have struck a deal with Media Sports Investments, who own the rights to the two players, and who last year, attempted to buy the London club.

The pair are both currently already in England preparing for this weekend’s Brazil versus Argentina clash at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

Tevez fell out with fans and officials at Corinthians and after returning from the World Cup, he said he would not play for Corinthians again.

Corinthians are thought to be happy to accept a smaller offer for the players in return for a bigger slice of any future sell-on fee.
