Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier will not allow Portuguese defender Abel Xavier to leave Anfield on a loan deal.
Turkish side Galatasaray have enquired about the player, but Liverpool are only prepared to release the defender on a permanent deal for around œ1million.
‘A few agents have been in touch with me but I won’t let him go out on loan. No way,’ said Houllier.
‘If he wants to go, he goes but it has to be a transfer. I can understand his situation because he isn’t getting regular football at the moment.’
The Portuguese international joined from Everton just over a year ago in a deal worth £800,000. However, this season, Xavier has been a peripheral figure at Anfield and is understood to be keen for as move.
