Real Zaragoza have rejected Liverpool’s 12 million euro (£8.5m) bid for Argentinian international central defender Gabriel Milito, according to a report in today’s edition of the Spanish sports daily Marca.

Zaragoza offered Milito a contract extension earlier this summer but have yet to receive an answer from the player, who was in Argentina’s squad at the Confederations Cup in Germany. They are believed to be waiting for Milito’s response to their offer before listening to offers from other clubs.

Milito joined Zaragoza two years ago from Independiente in controversial circumstances after his transfer to Real Madrid collapsed following a failed medical. Reports at the time suggested Madrid president Florentino Perez had rejected the Milito because he did not fit into the club’s transfer policy of only signing “galacticos”.

Milito has since made his international debut for Argentina and starred for Zaragoza in their 2004 Spanish Cup triumph.
