Gerard Pique is the latest Barcelona player to incur the wrath of the Spanish tax authorities and has been hit with a €2.5m bill, according to reports.

A report in La Vanguardia says Pique has been ordered to fork out unpaid tax for the years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, whilst he has also been given a €9,000 fine.

However, the Spain international has challenged the figures and is set to contest the matter in court.

The tax authorities have inspected several players over the past few months, with Pique’s Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi the most high profile of them.

The Argentine, who denied any wrongdoing, had to find €53m in 2014 and is still under investigation.
