Out of favour Aston Villa defender Alpay claims he is on the verge of quitting Villa Park to join another Premiership club.

The Turkish internatinal defender claims he has turned down offers from Spain and Italy in favour of joining one ‘the biggest club in England.’

‘I have reached an agreement with an English club, but I cannot say the club’s name. Aston Villa know the club’s name. I will play for the biggest club in England,’claims Alpay.

‘I’m happy in England. I want to stay there,’ he added. ‘I have to think my family’s future. There were offers from Italy and Spain. I’m really not thinking about moving back to Turkey at the moment.’

The defender has made just four appearances for Villa this season and although he has linked with a switch to Blackburn, Villa rejected a player swap deal.

Despite the reports of a deal, Villa have denied any knowledgeof a done deal.

‘Graham Taylor made clear we had received no concrete offers for Alpay last week and nothing has changed in that respect,” a club spokesman said.

‘As things stand at the moment, nothing is imminent. The player remains on the transfer-list, but we are no closer to a deal.’
