The Australian Football Federation have played down speculation claiming that Lyon manager Gerard Houllier is set to take over as coach.

Current Socceroos manager Graham Arnold is believed to be a target for Dutch club Roda JC, and Houllier has been linked with coaching the Socceroos.

“We’ve had discussions with some candidates but nothing has eventuated and we’re quite a while away from narrowing it down to one person,” confirmed FFA chief executive Ben Buckley to The Australian Telegraph.

“We’re going through an extensive process and we’re developing a list of suitable candidates.’

The former Liverpool coach has experience at international level from his time in charge of the French national team in the early 1990s. The current speculation suggests that he would undertake his duties with Australia while continuing to coach Lyon.
