Manchester City have turned down a bid for Darius Vassell from Turkish side Besiktas.

The striker, who earned 22 England caps under current City boss Sven Goran Eriksson, looks to have a future under the Swede.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Manchester City can confirm that they have received an offer from Besiktas for Darius Vassell, which has been rejected by the club.

“The player is part of the 22-man squad currently on the pre-season tour of Sweden.”
