FIFA and UEFA have suspended Bosnia-Herzegovina from international football until further notice.
The authorities have acted after seeing a row regarding the structure of the Bosnian football federation (NSBiH) remain unresolved.
FIFA and UEFA have previously informed the NSBiH that they must replace their three-man presidency with a single leader. However, general assembly in Sarajevo this week failed to find solve the problem, so a three-man leadership remains in place.
At present the federation consists of two associations: one a Bosnian Serb and another shared by Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats, headed by a Bosniak, a Croat and a Serb to reflect the country’s ethnic division after the 1992-1995 war.
FIFA and UEFA have demanded that a single leader be put in place and believe they have no option but to exclude the country from competition until the situation is resolved.
A joint statement by FIFA and UEFA added: “Fifa and Uefa deeply regret that this decision had to be taken and will meet shortly to discuss the next steps required to try to bring the NSBiH back into the football family as soon as possible.”
Bosnia-Herzegovina currently sit fourth in Euro 2012 qualifying Group D, but will not be able to fulfil their next fixture against Romania on 3rd June unless they accede to FIFA and UEFA demands.
