Former Spain coach Jose Antonio Camacho is the favourite to replace Carlos Quieroz if Real Madrid sack the ex-Manchester United coach.

Real boss Quieroz is expected to be fired at the end of what what has been a disappointing season for the club.

“When the moment comes, if it does come, it’s a question of talking about it and working things out,” Camacho told the Spanish sports daily Marca.

“Every day I wake up and find it impossible not to remember Madrid.”

Camacho has been in charge of Benfica for the last two seasons following his resignation from the Spanish national team in 2002. But as a player he won 8 league titles with Madrid and has always yearned for a return to the Bernabeu.

“My knees, shoulder and many parts of my body show the real scars of playing for Real Madrid,’ added Camacho.

“They will be there forever, until I die.”
