Arsene Wenger has made Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh one of his summer transfer targets.

The Arsenal boss has received £40m after Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor left for Manchester City, with the £10m capture of defender Thomas Vermaelen the club’s sole exopenditure.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said in Friday’s L’Equipe: “Wenger actually phoned me. He said to me that he had a list of strikers and that Marouane was on it.”

Wenger, however, maintains his current squad “are strong enough” to challenge next season.

The French manager, though, admits he could yet make more moves before the transfer window closes.
