Chelsea are reportedly lining up a bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
Reports emanating from Spain suggest Chelsea are prepared to smash the world record transfer fee for a defender by tabling a €70m bid for Ramos.
Ramos is regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe and has been an integral member of the Real side that has won back-to-back titles in Spain.
The 22-year-old, who can play at right-back and centre-back, could be seen as the answer to Chelsea’s problems at right full-back with Michael Essien being forced to play there on a number of occasions this season.
Ramos has a contract with Real until 2013, but is believed to be keen to sign a new lucrative deal to bring him in line with the top earners at the club.
