Chelsea are understood to be lining up for a fresh bid for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.

The Premier League outfit first inquired about Torres in 2003, but Atletico showed no inclination to sell, despite receiving offersin the region of €40 million.

Chelsea are now ready to return with a newoffer which would see Romanian striker Adrian Mutu move to Spain, plus an estimated €35 million in cash.

Atletico are desperate to retain Torres who has scored 42 goals in just over three seasons., but Chelsea and Abramovich’s millions will test their resolve.
