Barcelona midfielder Deco fears that a series of big matches is beginning to take its toll on his injury-hit side.

Deco, who was ruled out for five weeks after the 3-1 defeat by Villarreal on Saturday, was speaking ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Rangers the Brazilian midfielder.

“When we put in a lot of effort and play lots of games, you reach the point where your body has hit its limit,” said Barca’s latest injury casualty.

“I am no doctor, but that’s when injuries occur.”

Barcelon have a number of other players missing or doubtful for the Group E meeting in Glasgow.

Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho has been recalled to the squad after being left out on Saturday after returning late from international duty.

But defender Eric Abidal, who lost twice to the Scottish national team with France, fears that the physical nature of the Rangers’ challenge will compound Barca’s problems.

“I have played against Scotland for France and we have lost twice,” the former Lyon player told Barcelona’s website.

“They play very aggressive football, it is much more physical.”

Abidal may be forced to play in midfield, a switch he is not relishing.

“I am a defender, not a midfielder,” he said. “I am not used to playing in midfield.

“To be honest, it’s not a position I fancy very much.

“There are players that can cover that area and it is up to the boss to decide which of us will have to do that.”
