Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
The decision by the 22-year-old England striker to sign a new deal will come as a relief to the club, following speculation linking the former West Ham player with a move to Chelsea.
Defoe joined Spurs in a £7m deal in February 2004. He has scored 22 goals this season.
“I am delighted and so is he. He’s happy here,” manager Martin Jol told the BBC.
“He’s played a big part in our season because he’s scored goals. I think he can improve on things.”
