Arsenal’s title hopes have received a blow with the news that Sol Campbell will miss the last three games of the season, after the FA rejected an appeal against the red card he he was awarded in the title showdown with Manchester United.

Campbell was hoping to have a four-match ban overturned by the FA’ reveiew panel, but his appeal has been rejected. The England defender will also miss the FA Cup final.

Referee Mark Halsey was adamant he had made the correct decision.

“The sending off was for violent conduct. I saw enough of it but just got confirmation from my assistant,” said Halsey.

“I said to Sol as he came into the dressing room afterwards that he was entitled to send the video to the FA if he felt he had a case and they would send the videoto me.

“I’m satisfied with my decision. I’ve seen it again and I’m happy with it.”

Campbell will miss Premiership games against Leeds, Southampton and Sunderland, as well as the FA Cup final in Cardiff against Saints on 17 May.
