Georgia’s football federation have asked former French international midfielder Alain Giresse their new national head coach.

Reports claim the 51-year-old is expected to come to Tbilisi on Friday to finalise all the deatails of his two-year contract and sign the deal.

“The aim of the challenge will be to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. But for the time being, we’re still at the negotiating stage,” Giresse told AFP.

Georgia will face Turkey and Denmark, Greece, Albania, Ukraine and Kazakhstan in the 2006 World Cup European Zone Group Two.
