Arsenal’s international goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has take another swipe at Bayern Munich’s Oliver Kahn – claiming he should be Germany’s first choice for the EURO 2004 finals.

Lehmann has been one of several understudies to Kahn in recent years but the 34-year-old belives his recent form merits a tilt at the number one spot.

“My performances are more consistent,” Lehmann told Kicker magazine.

I have only made two mistakes in the past year – one against Leeds United and the other against (Dinamo) Kiev.

“So I can not accept that someone is better than me.”

Kahn blundered in Germany’s 2-1 win over Croatia in Split last night allowing the home side to equalise.

Lehmann does concede that Kahn performed admirably in the 2002 World Cup, but even that compliment is somewhat undermined by his criticism of the Bayern man’s performance in the final.

“I told Kahn in Japan ‘You played great – except in the final,'” added Lehmann.
