Andre-Pierre Gignac has angered Lille by turning down the club just four days after signing for them and instead opting Ligue 1 rivals Toulouse who had offered the striker a better deal.

The former Lorient striker signed for Lille on Thursday before changing his mind on Monday and signing for Toulouse.

Lille were furious with the player’s decision to join Toulouse.

“We have an agreement and a written document,” Lille president Michel Seydoux told a news conference.

“I’m not telling you exactly what happened because the relevant committees have been informed,” he added.

Seydoux said he accepted Gignac was now a Toulouse player but expected the French Professional Football League to act to prevent a recurrence of this kind of situation.

“I’m not going to fight against players who don’t want to come to Lille but this sort of situation does certainly not serve the image of French football,” he added.
