Japan midfielder Masakiyo Maezono is poised to join South Korean club AnyangLG Cheetahs and become the first Japanese international to play in the K-League.

The 29-year-old, who won 20 caps for Japan inthe mid-1990s, successfully completed a trial at Anyang this month and is believed to be keen on a quick transfer from J.League club Tokyo Verdy, where he is surplus to requirements.

“I have mostly decided (on the move). I told Verdy of my intentions and now it is up to both clubs to come to an agreement. There are no real obstacles” Maezono said.
