Fulham striker Steve Marlet hopes to leave the club before the start of the Premiership season.

After spending two seasons on loan at Marseille, Marlet is back at Craven Cottage, but was left out of the squad to tour the United States.

He told L’Equipe newspaper: “I have one year remaining on my contract and I will not sit by and let it pass. I hope all will be finished in the next week.”

Several French clubs are believed to be interested in siniging a player who cost Fulham £14m when he signed in 2001.

Marlet said a move to Auxerre was a “possibility”.

But he added: “There is nothing with Auxerre – not even a concrete discussion.

“I also read that (Nancy president) Mr Parentin had proposed something to me and that I had refused. That is completely false.

“My agents and I were never contacted by Nancy.”
