Milan are so desperate to sign Parma defender Fabio Cannavaro that they may offer new signing Jon Dahl Tomasson as bait.
The Italian giants have been chasing Cannavaro,26, for months now and although the clubs have yet to agree on a fee, the player has said he is reluctant to leave if it means taking a pay-cut.
Offering Tomasson, who cost the club nothing, would leave Milan with enough cash to pay Cannavaro’s œ2.8 million-a-year wages.
Milan signed the Denmark striker on a free transfer before the World Cup. But, after some impressive performances in Japan and South Korea, including four World Cup goals, Milan have seen the ex-Newcastle player’s market value soar beyond the œ10 million mark.
The news will come as a shock to Tomasson. He has yet to play a competitive game for the club, and after choosing Milan over a host of other top European clubs, will be against any such deal.
Massimo Donati could also be offered in the swap, after Parma were reluctant to take Brazil’s World Cup winning centre-back Roque Junior.
