Alessandro Nesta will be out of action for a month as he needs to have an operation on his thumb.

The Milan defender has damaged a tendon in his left thumb and will undergo surgery to rectify the problem.

Nesta will miss several games for Milani, including the eagerly anticipated Serie A clash against leaders Juventus at the end of October as well as at least two Champions League fixtures.

He played for Italy during Saturday’s World Cup qualifying win over Slovenia with a heavily bandaged thumb, but was sent home from the squad ahead of Wednesday’s game against Moldova.
