The names of the 22 candidates for the African footballer of the Year have been announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The players are from 12 separate African countries and all play in Europe.

Unsurprisingly, given their performance at the World Cup finals, Senegal provide the biggest representation with five players followed by Cameroon with three.

Three players will be shortlisted for the award by December 25, based on the votes of CAF’s technical and media committeeswith the winner being announced in April.
