Argentine midfielder Ariel Ortega has confirmed that he is keen to leave Fenerbahce and re-join River Plate just nine months after moving to Turkey.

‘I see now that I can’t stay in Turkey. I want to go home,’ Ortega was quoted as saying in Turkey’s Fanatik sports newspaper.

‘It would be best for me to go,’ added the midfielder, who joined Fenerbahce for £5 million in May.

Ortega has not had the anticipated impact since arrriving in Turkey and matters were not helped when he was booed by fans after last week’s 0-0 draw with Ankaragucu.

‘Fenerbahce has not the slightest thing to do with me going. I am leaving Turkey totally because of my own problems.’

‘Because of the size of my contract, we are still trying to find a way of handling this. I believe River Plate will agree with Fenerbahce very soon,’ he said.
