Racing Santander have sacked Lucas Alcaraz after the club’s dreadful run which has seen them take just one win from their last 12 games.

The club dropped into the bottom three after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Villarreal and the club’s board decided to take action.

Alcaraz replaced joint managers Chuchi Cos and Dmitri Piterman in June 2003, but his first season saw Racing finish just one place above the relegation zone.

Nando Yosu will take temporary charge of first-team affairs.
