Wigan Athletic winger Antonio Valencia has spoken of his ambition to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Valencia’s has reportedly attracted the interest of the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid after impressing for Wigan this season.

Latics boss Steve Bruce recently assured fans that no further players will leave the club this transfer window, but Valencia’s comments have sparked rumours of a departure.

“The dream of every footballer is to play at the highest level, to play in the Champions League, the highest level in European football,” he was quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper AS.

“When I’m sat at home and I see the Champions League on television, I say to myself: ‘why am I not there?”‘
