Roberto Carlos, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, has admitted that he would prefer to stay at Real Madrid.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed his interest in the full back as he looks strengthen his squad for next season.
The Brazilian is looking to win a long-term deal at Real, while the club are only prepared to offer him a one-year extension.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are thought to be ready to offer him a longer option.
“I have a contract with Real Madrid, but also I must look for the best thing for me,” Carlos told Marca.
“The offer from Chelsea is worth much more although right now my preoccupation is not the financial part, but to play two more years at the highest level.
“Real Madrid is my first option, but the offers that I have are very good.
“We will see what happens.”
