Roma have been banned from signing any players during the January transfer window after the conclusion of the dispute over Philippe Mexes’s move from Auxerre.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reached their decision on the long-running dispute between the two clubs, ordering Roma to pay the French side €7m for the defender and confirming that Roma’s transfer ban would end at the close of the January window.

Mexes joined Roma in the summer of 2004 while still under contract with Auxerre. The French international defender claimed he could move for €4m, according to a clause in his Auxerre contract, but the Ligue 1 team disputed this.
