Schalke 04 coach Ralf Rangnick is to quit when his contract runs out at the end of the season after becoming disillusioned with the way the club is being run.

“I’m just sick of these political shenanigans,” the 47-year-old told news agency SID on Friday. “I can’t deal with it any more.”

Schalke are fourth in the Bundesliga, 10 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Rangnick refused to rule out the possibility of quitting before his contract expires.

“I’m still assuming that, with what I have, I can keep training the team,” he said. “Everything else is not my decision.”

Schalke club manager Rudi Assauer said he was surprised by his coach’s decision.

“No one was expecting it,” he said. “All attempts to try to persuade Ralf to change his mind and wait on results failed.”
