Marcos Senna has signed a new contract at Villarreal.

The Spain midfielder, 30, who was out of contract at the end of the current season, and had been linked with a move to Manchester United, will now stay Villarreal until 2010.

“Despite everything that was said during the summer, what I really wanted was to stay here,” said Senna.

“I am convinced that the club will win something soon and I wanted to be here when that happens.”

Senna helped the club reach the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League.

The Brazilian-born Senna was a member of Spain’s World Cup squad in Germany over the summer.
