Portugal midfielder Tiago has been cleared to play for Chelsea by the Portuguese Football Association, even though he was withdrawn from Portugal’s Olympic squad through injury.

Tiago had been selected for Portugal’s Olympic squad but was dropped before the start of the competition because of injury.

He has been training with Chelsea and has finally been cleared to play by FIFA, the west London club said on their website.

Chelsea signed Tiago from Benfica on a three-year deal last month for £8m.
