Coach Klaus Toppmoeller is confident that his Bayer Leverkusen side can produce when they face Manchester United in tomorrow’s Champions League group F clash.

‘We are clearly the outsiders,’ Toppmoeller admitted.

‘We don’t have enough defenders to stop (Ruud) van Nistelrooy, (David) Beckham and (Ryan) Giggs,’ said Toppmoeller.

‘But it would not be the first time that a weak team beat a strong one.’

Leverkusen, who reached last year’s final, will be without defenders Jens Nowotny and Diego Placente, both absent with long-term injuries.

Midfielder Bernd Schneider said Leverkusen would look to emulate the performance of Olympiakos who lat week thrashed Leverkusen 6-2.

‘If we play the way Olympiakos did against us, we stand a chance,’ he said.

‘Against such opponents we can only straighten ourselves up,’ added Schneider.
