UEFA says it will investigate claims that its anti-corruption investigators falsely alleged Bayern Munich were suspected of match-fixing.
UEFA says it “understands the reasons” why Bayern has asked Munich prosecutors to open a criminal case for defamation, even though general secretary Gianni Infantino said Wednesday that Bayern were “over-reacting.”
The organization has confirmed that president Michel Platini and Infantino had “open and constructive” talks on Thursday with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and vice-chairman Karl Hopfner.
There’s no indication that Bayern will drop its legal action, which followed a German magazine report that UEFA staff suspected Bayern of deliberately losing their UEFA Cup semi-final tie against Zenit St. Petersburg in May 2008.
