Van der Meyde’s Inter future in doubt

Andy van der Meyde’s future at Internazionale looks in doubt after he was omitted from the squad for the Champions League qualifier against Basel.

The Dutch international has struggled at Giuseppe Meazza since his arrival from Ajax last summer, but was hoping for a fresh start under new Inter coach Roberto Mancini.

However, his omission from Mancini’s first competitive squad for such an important fixture, is bound to fuel speculation that he is surplus to requirements at the club.

At the end of last season, van der Meyde admitted he would relish a return to the Amsterdam ArenA and in the light of Mancini’s snub, such a move may represent his best chance of playing first team football next season.
