Roy Makaay inspired Bayern Munich to a 5-2 away win over Bayer Leverkusen with a hat-trick on Saturday.
Michael Ballack and Makaay gave Bayern a two-goal lead before Dimitar Berbatov converted a penalty for Leverkusen. Further goals from Ali Karimi and a double by Makaay to complete his hat-trick gave the reigning champions an emphatic win although Marko Babic got the final say for the home side.
Werder Bremen continued their winning start to the new season with a 2-0 win at Mainz.
Goals from Ivan Klasnic and Miroslav Klose ensured Werder go to second place in the Bundesliga.
Schalke remain unbeaten after a 2-1 over Borussia Dortmund thanks to a brace by German international Kevin Kuranyi. Eby Smolarek had put Dortmund ahead but Kuranyi had the final say.
Hertha Berlin have yet to taste defeat after a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The goals came in the 2nd-half from Oliver Schroder and an own goal from Arie van Lent.
An injury-time own goal salvaged a point for Borussia Monchengladbach at home to 10-man Wolfsburg. Mike Hanke had put Woflsburg ahead but Diego Klimowicz was sent off for collecting two yellow cards. Kevin Hofland’s own goal gave the home side a last gasp draw.
Big-spending Hamburg kept their 100 percent start intact after a late 2-0 win over Arminia Bielefend. Two goals in the last 11 minutes from a Sergei Barbarez penalty and Rafael van der Vaart ensured the victory.
A Halil Altintop hat-trick ensured Kaiserslautern beat newly promoted Duisberg in an eight-goal thriller. Altintop gave the home side the lead but Uwe Mohrle levelled before Herve Nzele-Lembo restored the lead with Altintop grabbing his second. Mohrle’s second and a third for Duisberg from Abdelaziz Ahanfouf made it 3-3. Boubacar Sanogo restored Kaiserslautern lead once again before Altintop claimed his third to secure a 5-3 win.
Nurnberg secured their first point of the season thanks to a 90th minute Marek Mintal equaliser against Hannover. Thomas Brdaric opened the scoring for the away side after just seven minutes, which looked to be the winner until the late intervention by Mintal.
Newly promoted Cologne also kept their unbeaten start with an impressive 3-2 win at Stuttgart. Markus Feulner and two goals from Albert Streit put the visitors 3-0 up but the home side replied through Marco Steller and Christian Tiffertt within a nine-minute period. Cologne held on despite a nervy finish.
