The Frenchman took a short term contract with Cameroon lasy year when they were lying bottom of their World Cup qualifying group standings. A championship-winning coach in France with Olympique Lyon, his star dimmed after undistinguished spells at Glasgow Rangers and Paris St Germain. But with Cameroon, Le Guen affected a turn around to qualify the team for a place at the 2010 finals in South Africa. He took criticism for a quarter-final exit at the Nations Cup in Angola but had already signed an extension to his deal with the Cameroon federation through to the World Cup finals
