Fabio Cannavaro has reiterated his desire to remain at Real Madrid for at least two years – and believes things are looking up at the Bernabeu.
Cannavaro, who admitted earlier in the season that he had struggled to adapt to life in Spain, was recently linked with a move back to Italy with Juventus or Napoli.
However, the 33-year-old defender claims he wants to prove himself in Madrid.
“I see myself at Real Madrid for two or three years,” he told UEFA Champions Magazine.
“Players have carried on to a later age. There are many examples. I think I will keep going.”
After a sluggish start to the season, Real have improved in recent months and currently top La Liga with just four games remaining.
“I expected a different Real Madrid, but what’s happened is normal: a change of board, a change of coach, a change of players – this has an effect,” continued the Italian World Cup-winning skipper.
“There are periods in which things go well and others in which they don’t.
“In any case, this is a short-term process. In two or three years, things will be very good.”
Cannavaro’s own form has come under scrutiny, although he believes he has turned the corner in recent weeks.
“It’s traditional that players under-perform the season after a World Cup – this has happened to me – and, of course, changing environment and starting with a new club that is going through a transition in terms of the board.
“But I have played some good games for Real Madrid.”
