England coach Sven Goran Eriksson is looking forward to a revenge mission against Brazil in next year’s World Cup finals in Germany.
England face Northern Ireland on Wednesday night in Belfast, where another three points would keep them on the road to Germany.
Eriksson’s reputation in England has never really recovered from England’s World Cup exit to ten-man Brazil side three years ago. But despite the memories of that match, Eriksson is relishing the prospect of facing the Brazilians in Germany.
Speaking after Brazil sealed qualification for the finals with a convincing 5-0 win over Chile, Eriksson said: “I have not seen Brazil’s match. I have read a bit about the game. I have the tape in the office and I will look at it.
“In the final of the Confederations Cup they played excellent football, but I cannot be worried about that today.
“We have to qualify for the World Cup first and then concentrate on Brazil and all the other teams going to the World Cup.
“For sure, Brazil are maybe the most technical team in the world. But football is not only technique.
“We were almost there four years ago, and if we have to meet Brazil again they will not have an easy win against us.”
