Sporting coach Jose Peseiro has quit the Portuguese Premier League club following a disappointing start to the season.
“I accept the resignation (of Peseiro),” club president Antonio Dias da Cunha told a news conference.
Sporting are seventh in the 18-team table, having taken 12 points from seven games.
Peseiro, who joined the club in July 2004, steered the Lisbon side to last season’s UEFA Cup final where they lost 3-1 to CSKA Moscow.
However, this season they were eliminated in the first round by Sweden’s Halmstad.
