Struggling Premier League outfit Bolton have completed the signing of Spanish international striker Salva Ballesta.

The 27-year-old Ballesta played a key role in Valencia’s Primera Division title success last season, but has been unable to dislodge John Carew, Miguel Angel Angulo and Juan Sanchez during the current campaign.

Ballesta passed a medical at the Reebok stadium last night and the deal, which will see the striker loaned to Bolton until the end of the season, was completed today.

The signing represents a much needed boost to Bolton, who currently lie one place and one point above the relegation zone.

“We are delighted that all our hard work has finally paid off,’ said Bolton boss Sam Allardyce.

‘Salva’s got a proven track record and has a tremendous pedigree in Spain.”

“He is strong in the air with a fantastic eye for goal. We are confident that he’ll score the goals we need to get us out of our current predicament,” the Bolton manager added.

Ballesta is expected to make his debut against Birmingham City on Saturday.
