Roy Hodgson has played down speculation linking him with coaching the Sweden national team.
The Fulham boss has been linked with the post following Lars Lagerback’s decision to step down in the wake of Sweden’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign.
But Hodgson, who has previously coached Swedish sides Halmstads, Orebro and Malmo, says he wants to stay at craven Cottage.
Asked about speculation that suggests he is on a short-list for the Sweden job, Hodgson told Sky Sports News: “I can’t say it would surprise me I suppose.
“I spent 12 years there, I suppose that I and Bob Houghton (who also managed Malmo) are given a lot of credit for being father figures of the way that Sweden has gone about its business for the last 20 odd years. So I suppose I shouldn’t say I would be surprised to hear that I was on a list of candidates.”
But he added that he believes they will go for a home-grown manager to succeed Lagerback.
“They’ve always gone for Swedish coaches and I’d be very, very surprised if they don’t go for another Swedish coach,” he said.
“Secondly I’m quite happy here so hopefully my time here will continue a bit longer.”
