Liverpool are set to announce the departure of manager Gerard Houllier on Monday, according to a report by the BBC.
The club are to announce the news at a press conference scheduled for 1200 BST.
Houllier arrived at Anfield in the summer of 1998 and took sole charge from Roy Evans later that season.
If confirmed, Houllier’s departure will end weeks of speculation about his position. Despite winning several Cup competitions in his six years in charge, the former French national coach has been unable to mount a successful challenge for the Premier League and he has come under increasing criticism this season for the club’s style of play.
Among those tipped to replace Houllier, are Valencia coach Raphael Benitez (believed to be Michael Owen’s choice), Charlton boss Alan Curbishley and Porto coach Joe Mourinho.
