Inter have reportedly switched their attention to Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso after failing in their attempts to sign Cristian Ledesma.

The Italian champions were forced to abandon attempts to sign Ledesma when the midfielder lost his battle to free himself from his contract with Lazio, despite months of dispute.

The 27-year-old has been frozen out of the Lazio squad this term and was expected to depart, but the league’s arbitration panel have rejected his case.

Inter owner Massimo Moratti admitted that the deal was now closed until the summer.

“We are working on another player for the midfield,” he said.

“We will speak about Ledesma again in June also because (Claudio) Lotito (Lazio president) refused an offer. Now we’ll see what happens.”

Although Moratti was reluctant to name the club’s latest transfer target, reports in Italy claim that Portugual international Veloso could be heading to the San Siro in exchange for Ricardo Quaresma.
