Benfica have denied receiving an offer for Simao, amid reports of interest in the Portuguese international from Manchester United.

The Benfica winger has been named as a target for United by the Portuguese press and the club is expecting further interest in the midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.

“Officially we have not received an offer for Simao recently,” said Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira. “Not from England or any other country.

“Selling Simao in January does not enter into our plans because he is a key player in the team.

“We are only ready to think if a spectacular proposition arrives.”

Meanwhile, the winger is currently playing down talk of an move.

“Now I am thinking only of playing and continuing in Benfica,” said Simao.
