Former Sunderland manager Peter Reid has been installed as the new manager of Premiership side Leeds United.
With Terry Venables stepping down as Leeds manager this morning, Leeds have moved quickly to fill the hot seat with Reid being given the job until the end of the season.
Reid began the season with Sunderland, before being axed after a seriesof poor results. After being replaced by Howard Wilkinson at the Stadium of Light, Reid has been without a job and a chance to lift Leeds United up the table has proved too good an opportunity to resist for the former Everton and England player.
Favourite totake the job was thought to be Nottingham Forest boss Paul Hart. But, with the given swiftness of chairman Peter Ridsdale’s appointment, the move for Reid seems to have been planned from the start.
With Leeds only 7 points above the relegation places, a change was very much expected, and following Venables’ decision to leave the Elland Road club, Reid will now attempt to fight off the further decline in Leeds’ fortunes.
The club have called a press conference for this afternoon, in which Reid is expected to be unveiled.
