West Ham manager Glenn Roeder remained in hospital overnight after scans revealed he had suffered a minor stroke.
The 47-year-old collapsed after being taken ill with chest pains following West Ham’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Monday.
Roeder was ddescribed as being in a “stable” condition and making “satisfactory progress” in the Royal London Hospital.
A statement issued read: “We can confirm that there has been a blockage of a minor blood vessel in his brain.
“Doctors are continuing to carry out tests and will be in a position to make a fuller diagnosis once these are completed.
“The Roeder family would like to thank supporters and people within the football world who have sent goodwill messages and thank people for respecting their privacy.”
Roeder will not be in charge for the the club’s relegation battle at Manchester City at the weekend and it is highly unlikely that he will return to the fray this season.
The players will train under assistant manager Paul Goddard and coach Roger Cross.
